It is no secret that before EA made a deal with Disney & Lucas-Film to produce Star Wars games like Battlefront, we were originally going to be getting Free Radical’s version of Battlefront III. Sadly, it was scrapped for various reasons but after its source code and alpha builds released online in 2015, studio Front Wire Software has been using this as an inspiration to re-build this lost title into something greater.

Press Release:
“For the past few months we have been telling everyone that we would not be able to release Galaxy in Turmoil on Steam due to restrictions with our use of the Star Wars IP. Obviously we’re not a major studio like Bethesda or any of the other big ones,  so we obviously lack the negotiating power of a studio that has put out various triple A titles. The second avenue we discussed was Steam Greenlight, however their terms of service state your game can only consist of assets you own, such as Star Wars characters, names, etc. As we all know, Frontwire Studios does not own Star Wars (As much as I wish we did). It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil. After ongoing discussion between Valve Representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to it’s millions of users for FREE.
While this is undoubtedly a big step and accomplishment for Frontwire Studios itself, it’s an even bigger step for you, the community. By Steam agreeing to ship Galaxy in Turmoil we are not only adding more validation and awareness to the project by opening up the game to a whole new audience, we’re also cementing Frontwire Studios’ reputation as an up and coming developer with the opportunity to now publish our games on Steam in the future. This will help us ultimately achieve our goal of making the games that you, the community want. On a final note; People have been expressed their concern as of late, saying they expect us to get a Cease & Desist from Disney. I’ll be honest – I’ve had mild concerns myself from time to time. However Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.
I encourage everyone, including those that doubt we’ll be able to pull this off, to take a page from Valve’s book. Take a deep breath and just take a chance on our project. In the end, it’ll pay off for everyone involved. Especially the community. We could not have brought Frontwire to where it is today without the amazing team of developers working on it. Every single person on this team is irreplaceable as we have come together to create a truly magnificent product that we are sure many of you will enjoy for the years to come. I’m lucky to be called the President of this company, but even more importantly to me, I’m lucky to be able to call the team we have my friends as well.”
Further more, this company would be nothing without the amazing backing and support from you, the community. You are the reason we went from a fan project to a full studio. You are the reason we’re working so hard to make something everyone wants. YOU are the reason Valve has agreed to publish us. I am truly thankful for each and every one of you who continuously support not only Galaxy in Turmoil, but Frontwire Studios as a whole. I look forward to watching this community grow and evolve as we embark on this wild journey together.
