Nintendo Switch Likely to Not Have Media Apps (Web Browser & Netflix) at Launch

Nintendo Switch
The Switch has a touch screen and while that isn’t used for any game (currently), it could be useful for some media apps. I would love to say, use the kick stand to have it put up while watching some movie on a plane or something. But it seems the Switch will not have any media support when it launches despite it’s tablet form-factor.

The Switch isn’t going to replace your iPad — it’s a dedicated gaming machine to the point where it won’t have many multimedia functions at launch, Nintendo’s Kit Ellis told me. Don’t plan to watch Netflix on the Switch, for instance.

According to Business Insider, the Switch will not have media features supported out of the box. This is honestly baffling, as the system is a tablet once you take the Joy-Cons out and supports touch input. It would be a great selling point to casual buyers if they can say, watch a movie on Netflix with the family but when little Jimmy is going to soccer practice, they can take the Switch out of the dock and continue watching the movie while driving.
That helps with the ‘go anywhere’ messaging with the Switch and not capitalizing on that (at least during launch) is really confusing. Hopefully they get media services ready close to launch or not long after it. Could go a long way to help justify the 299$ Price Tag to causal buyers.
