Nintendo’s systems always have some interesting history behind them and the N64 is no exception to this rule. Going through many delays and hardware add-ons that became vaporware, it’s a console with quite the history. Did You Know Gaming took some time to discuss some key bits of history behind this iconic Nintendo console and I highly recommend you give the video a watch. The Nintendo 64 was Nintendo’s third home console for the international market, and was home to some of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, including Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Code-named Project Reality, and originally titled the Ultra 64, the Nintendo 64’s launch was delayed several times until 1996. The system competed primarily with disc-based systems such as the PlayStation and the Sega Saturn, which many believe played a hand in the consoles sub-par sales. Through our analysis of the system’s history, the gameplay of its games and their beta builds, we hope to bring you some little-known facts of the N64.
