Hot of the heels of the announcement of Sonic Mania, the game was announced that it would not release on Wii U or 3DS for its inital launch. Founder of the Renegade Kid, Jools Watsham, offered SEGA that they would like to bring the Classic inspired 2D title over to Nintendo’s 3DS platform.
It would fit with the studios past titles, as Mutant Mudds and Xenodrifter have great pixel art and have strong core mechanics. It would be interesting to see them work on a 3DS version of this great game.
The Retro Engine that powers Sonic Mania has shown to work on 3DS hardware, with Taxman releasing images of his ports of Sonic 1, 2 and CD running on the New 3DS in the past. More on this story as information comes out.
