Shanate had a great 2016; releasing various titles in physical format and the critically praised Half Genie Hero finally releasing come to mind. The Half Genie is dancing into 2017 with a lot of plans and WayForward released a statement on Kickstarter detailing some specific plans.

Lets first dive into a major update, that being the game is now playable for PlayStation TV users. So if you own the platform, you can access the Vita version through that update once it goes live in the future. This is great news and gives people another reason to check out the quality Vita release of Half-Genie Hero. That was the version I used for my review of the title and it ran quite well honestly.
Regarding DLC plans, WayForward gave the following statement.

TINKERBAT DLC: The playable Tinkerbat form is now complete and in test! We expect this to be our first DLC release. We’ll have an ETA on that as soon as we’ve submitted Update 1.01.
DLC MODES: We’ve already started work on the Risky Boots, Sky, Bolo, Rottytops, Beach, Ninja, and Officer Modes! We plan to release Risky Boots Mode first, and that’s where we’re putting the majority of our dev efforts now!
BLUE SHANTAE, CLASSIC RISKY, and SWORD: This download code is planned to include all 3 of these features, and will arrive after the Risky Boots DLC drops. We need Risky’s mode to be completed before we can recolor her, and we want to lump all of this Backer content into a single submission to make the code distribution easier for everyone.

So the promised DLC modes are in development and will release throughout 2017. Regarding the larger DLC updates with new playable characters, no official comment released regarding when they will release but if we could compare this to say Shovel Knights Expansions, they could be radically different games just using the base engine of Half-Genie Hero. Meaning they could take quite a while to release. But with a boss fight later in the game indicating animations for Risky Mode are far along and the option being present in the character select screen, that will be coming out first.
Other DLC updates like a Tinkerbat Costume, Blue Shantae and Classic Risky will be releasing once the Risky Mode content is complete for backers via DLC code. WayForward also has some information to share regarding Backer Codes, an upcoming update and more.

MISSING BACKER CODES: Over the holiday we expanded our support team to help get everyone taken care of! There are still a few people left to help, so we’re making this our top priority.
UPDATE 1.01: Since launch we’ve been fixing bugs! We’ve been snooping around social media, and digging through support emails to improve the game’s stability in numerous ways. Now we’re getting ready to submit Version 1.01, which will make all versions of the game up to date. This update will also contain a special “thank you” surprise, which we’ll reveal in our next Kickstarter Update – We hope you look forward to it!
PHYSICAL REWARDS: Work on the physical rewards has begun in earnest! T-shirts, the Collector’s Coin, Music CDs, the Lenticular Poster, and the Art Book are either being designed, are are in production. We’re prioritizing quality over timeliness, same as with the game. So thank you for being patient. You’ve waited a long time, and we want these things to be awesome!

They are aware of people missing codes and a special update will be releasing across all versions to ensure issues people have with the game are resolved. They are also teasing a special ‘Thank You’ Surprise being part of this update and will share more on this in the future. A big take away from this portion of the update post is that Physical Rewards are being started regarding development and shipping. Great news for those having those tiers and they should be coming out in the future.
The last bit of the update post is that a special ‘Early Access’ version that some backers could opt-in for will stop being supported going forward. Considering the full game is out now, that isn’t needed so it’s understandable but if you own the Early Access version, you can still play it. Just don’t expect updates coming to this version of the game in the future.
