Atari VCS Indiegogo opening on May 30, won’t ship initially until Spring 2019

News about the so-called “Atari VCS/Ataribox” have been sparse at best since it’s initial announcement and teasing, there have been several updates but nothing so major about when it is actually coming out. Not until today, where the company “Atari” has announced new details about the Atari VCS’s features, accessories, funding and when it’s initially shipping.

They mentioned that the “hardware platform” will be powered by a custom Linux OS, specialized AMD chipset with support for support for 4K resolution, HDR and 60FPS content, onboard and expandable storage options, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0, as well as USB 3.0 support. The ONYX edition of the console will be available for early bird buyers starting at $199 USD, more options will be revealed at the campaign launch.

In addition, the peripherals (Joystick and Controller) will be available with the console and can be purchased standalone as well in partnership with Power A and will let you play classic Atari video games dubbed “Atari Vault” and new titles as alongside other apps. You can check out the list of classic titles in the press release.

Preorders begin May 30 on Indiegogo but initial shipments won’t come until Spring 2019.

Author’s take: I am not sure if somebody is really willing to spend money on such a piece of hardware from a company that is a former shell of itself, especially after what happened with the OUYA.

We have a small update on what’s going to happen to the social media pages that have the least amount of interaction, views and followers. The Google+ ones for Crashy News and 3WIREL! will be officially shutting down today at 6PM EST, this is because there’s no real benefit to having them and is not doing the sites any favor in terms of traffic. They are now currently being in the process of being delisted from the sites. The YouTube channel linked with the page will remain open and is not being shut down.

Consider following us on any of the other social media links: FacebookTwitterTumblr

3WIREL! Club Forums (Traditional) and Messenger (Chatroom) launched

In the light of recent site changes, it has been decided that the forums should restore a more traditional forum to garner better discussion quality and quantity, since previous attempts at merging have been unsuccessful due to lack of resources (more high-end attempts will be made in the future).

In addition, we’ve gotten a new chatroom that features public and private messaging for everyone who’s registered on 3WIREL! Club.

Gears for Breakfast, ‘A Hat in Time’ Dev, Clarification regarding console ports (Switch)

A curious case of multi-platform releases is that whenever a well-demanded platform like the Nintendo Switch is missing from those releases, people naturally demand them, of course, that’s not an easy task to perform, especially when you got a smaller team at hand. Recently, after the multiplatform console reveal of ‘A Hat in Time’, the development team behind it, Gears for Breakfast, have been met with those numerous requests by fans eager to play the game on the go, suffice to say, they have now clarified some things regarding the Switch port, have a read:

Hey everyone, thank you so much for your continued support for A Hat in Time!! A while ago, we asked our fans to make sure to let everyone know how much you care for the game, and you really have! Humble and Gears now have access to Nintendo Switch devkits. Unfortunately we won’t have time to touch the devkits for a while now that we’re SO close to release (October 5th). Additionally, we’d like to remind everyone that there are NO PLANS for additional releases until we make any kind of official announcement.

Gears for Breakfast Development Team (Twitlong)

In summary, they recently obtained the dev-kits but are not able to work on the Nintendo Switch port with no plans to change that until further notice, since they are almost done with the development of the game on its long-awaited release of October 5, 2017. Suffice to say, we humbly cannot wait to see what this game has to offer.
