Sonic has had his fair share of arcade adventures and a few of them were exclusive to Japanese marketplaces. One such game was SegaSonic Popcorn Shop where you play an arcade game while pop corn is being made. It is a charming little game and SonicWindBlue was able to capture footage of the title.

SegaSonic Popcorn Shop is an arcade vending machine released in 1993, exclusively in Japan. Created by Sega AM1 and released by Sega, it is a combination of a popcorn machine and a mini-game on Sega’s C-2 board, a hardware similar to the one on the Sega Genesis. The vending machine dispenses popcorn in one of three flavors: salted, butter or curry.
The small screen of the vending machine also features a mini-game, starring Sonic and Tails, who assist in making popcorn while Dr. Eggman tries to ruin the event. While the mini-game is being played, the actual popcorn is being microwaved in a nearby compartment. Like in many early Sonic-related arcade games, Takeshi Kusao and Masaharu Satō provided the voices of Sonic and Dr. Eggman.

Nintendo is known for producing various Nintendo Direct videos, which detail upcoming announcements and more. I really enjoy these videos and was hopeful they would film one in the near future for detailing the Nintendo Switch. That might be happening, as they are closing the Nintendo NYC (aka Nintendo World) store for a private event on Feb. 12th and 13th. Very interesting to hear this, which could imply that they are filming a Nintendo Direct themed around the Switch.
Considering how little we know about various elements (Digital storefront, Virtual Console Service, Internal Features, etc), this would be a smart move on Nintendo’s part to detail these things before the Switch’s March 3rd launch.
We will see what happens but I’m hopeful this does indicate a Direct is happening soo

NeiR Automata is one of the biggest releases from Platinum Games in 2017, as after the recently scrapped Scalebound, this is the only major release currently announced from the studio. After releasing a polished playable demo over the holidays, NeiR Automata is gearing up for a Spring 2017 launch very soon. Square Enix Japan is celebrating with the release of a new story-focused trailer that hints at a lot.
The two main characters seem to be fighting other android-like creatures and we see a bit of how open the game world can become (with a character jumping across rooftops). I really enjoyed what I saw in the trailer and we will continue covering information on NeiR Automata as it releases.

Persona 5 is taking a good while to release but some English gameplay released recently. If you want to see how it stacks up to Persona 4 in a few ways, consider giving the above video a shot! While I’m personally getting tired of waiting for Persona 5 to release, I’m still hopeful it will be one of the best games in the series. Persona 4 and 3 are some of my favorite JRPG’s of all time personally, so I have high expectations for Persona 5 to deliver a great experience.

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity Review – Nintendo Wii & PlayStation 2

Sonic is no stranger to the realm of racing games, as the blue blur drifted under sunshine filled tracks and SEGA worlds alike. But Sonic also took up some hoverboard action in 2006 in one of the franchises better releases of that year through Sonic Riders. Bending the trick-pulling action from games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater with Mario Kart styled race tracks, the end result was an enjoyable game with a high difficulty curve that sadly lead to divisive reception when originally released.

Fast forward two years and SEGA shoots for the stars with Sonic’s next racing adventure in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. Taking feedback many gave to heart, Sonic Team and CRI Middleware added new gravity mechanics alongside various refinements to the formula. Does it create a stronger racing experience? Lets go through gravity and race our way for an answer!Read More
