Skylanders Academy: Season 3 Greenlight & Season 2 Details (Activision Press Release)

Skylanders is a series that face a few issues recently. With rumors of the 2017 game being scrapped and the announcement of a Switch version of Imaginators hitting launch, the future of Skylanders is a bit confused. While the game side of the franchise isn’t clear, what is however is the Skylanders Academy will continue not only with an already confirmed Season 2 but a recently green-lit Season 3.
The full press release can be found below but one thing I to note is how Cynder is joining the main cast in Season 2. She is a female dragon part of the Spyro series of games and joined Skylanders with Spyro & Sparx in Spyro’s Adventure. Seeing her in the show is honestly really cool and happy more of the Spyro side of Skylanders is getting major focus.

Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today announced that its Netflix original series “Skylanders TM Academy” has been renewed for a third season. Production on the third season of “Skylanders Academy” — the first television series developed and produced by Activision Blizzard Studios — will begin in February, with animation again created by the renowned TeamTO studio in France.
“Activision Blizzard Studios celebrates the opportunity to bring another season of quality programming to families around the world,” said studio Co-President Nick van Dyk. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Netflix on this iconic franchise.”
Season 3 will launch in 2018. This year, audiences can enjoy Season 2 of “Skylanders Academy,” which brings back Justin Long as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks as Eruptor and Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks.
New addition Felicia Day ( The Guild, Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will join the cast in Season 2, voicing the role of Cynder, a new cadet at the Academy with a mysterious past.
The Diamond Minecart (Daniel Middleton) will reprise his role as Cy and Daniel Wu returns as King Pen. Additional voice talent in Season 2 includes Susan Sarandon, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz. The series features the exclusive song “Harmony” (Skylanders Academy Theme) produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Timbaland and performed by Timbaland fet. Dalton Diehl.
“Response to the show has been incredibly enthusiastic and we’ve taken a lot of creative inspiration from fans’ excitement,” said studio Co-President Stacey Sher. “We have a lot of fun in store for season three and are thrilled to give audiences even more of the characters they love.”
Based on Activision Blizzard’s record-breaking $3.5 billion Skylanders® game franchise 1, “Skylanders Academy” is high quality entertainment for the whole family. This Netflix original series follows the heroic adventures of Spyro, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Jet-Vac and Pop Fizz as they travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers. The award-winning Skylanders franchise, created by Toys for Bob, has sold through more than 300 million toys since pioneering the toys-to-life category in 2011 1, and late last year Activision launched Skylanders® Imaginators, the latest innovation in the franchise.
Activision Blizzard Studios launched last year to create original content based on the company’s extensive library of iconic and globally-recognised intellectual properties, which includes some of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world. “Skylanders Academy” is the first production by Sher and van Dyk, who are joined by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick as the series’ executive producers.

Jim Sterling produces quality videos that we have covered a few times here on 3WIREL but his latest episode covers a subject many of us know from experience; GameStop. It is a location that sells games and it’s infamous for a number of issues. While I personally never had a bad interaction with the store franchise, many have and Jim covers one possible reason why that is the case.
This video is one of his best yet and I greatly enjoyed watching it, so if you like Sterling’s prior work with the Jimquistion, I highly recommend giving this a watch.

Stranger of Sword City RevisitedWhen Stranger of the Sword City originally released, many greatly enjoyed the title and it found a good home on PS Vita. But when it was announced Japan would be getting a special edition of the game, many wondered if it will find it’s way to western shores in the future.
NIS America announced that this expanded released is in fact coming out in the west.

From the present day, to the parallel world. Survive in the land of polar night! The airplane you were travelling on vanished mysteriously, without a trace. You awaken to an unfamiliar starry night sky. It is the Sword City Escario, where shining butterflies dance… Before you lies a land of strange creatures, fearsome monsters, and countless mysterious labyrinths. You are the Chosen One: The Stranger of Sword City.
Stranger of Sword City Revisited uses the previously released by NIS America PS Vita version of Stranger of Sword City as the base of the game. Though, with the additional content of new classes, reworked combat & gameplay system, items and additional dungeon players will be able to enjoy a different experience from the original game!
*The Story will be mostly similar to the original title, though there are new additional events.

This is great news and we will report more on this title as further information releases. It’s confirmed to be releasing February 28 for $29.99 in North America as a digital-only title.

Guacamelee Review (PS Vita, PS3, PC, Wii U, Xbox One) – Brawling Metroidvania Action

The Meroidvania genre has games in all shapes and sizes but many of them don’t focus on using melee combat. While games like the Castlevania series have some melee combat, the main focus is using long-ranged weapons like whips and magic. Metroid is also known for long-ranged combat with Samus’ various weapons and beams. But what about a game set within the Metroidvania genre that not only uses physical combat, but uses it in creative ways to solve puzzles and get through tricky platforming?
From the studio that creative Mutant Blobs Attack, DrinkBox developed a game called Guacamelee which has you don the shoes of a farmer-turned luchador named Juan who sets out to save the world from an evil skeleton warrior.

Pushing the genre in a interesting direction, does Guacamelee offer a great brawling time? Or ring out a bit to early? Lets don our masks and go on an adventure to save the world!

Stranger Things 2 is coming. Halloween 2017.
A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.

This Netflix original series is getting another season! Join Will and the rest of the cast on new adventures to undertake. The series is a very successful one which many greatly enjoy. So it is great seeing Netflix give it another season. While it’s far away from now (Halloween release), that offers plenty of time to give the show a watch if you haven’t already.

Tomb Raider Movie: On-Set Photo’s Released

Not unlike the game series, Tomb Raider is getting a reboot film that will be released in the future. On-Set photos released and you can view them all below. The actress heavily mirrors the design of reboot Lara Croft, indicating that the film might be based more on the reboot series of games rather then say the PS1 titles.
This isn’t much of a concern, though I personally did not like the story of Tomb Radier 2013. I hope the film offers a strong story and it’s characterization of Lara Croft is well done.

FIFA 2018 for Switch Detailed – EA Vancouver Developed

MotweraGamingLeave a Comment

FIFA for Nintendo Switch
FIFA is a major game franchise, offering thousands of hours worth of content gamers enjoy around the world through yearly releases. Many were happy to see the soccer/football game finally get announced for Nintendo after years of ignoring the system through FIFA for Switch.
Little was known about it when announced during Nintendo’s Switch Conference but EA is ready to explain a little about this version of the game. It is indeed a version of the upcoming FIFA 2018 NOT a port of an older FIFA. That is great news alone and similar to NBA 2K18 it’s releasing alongside the other versions.

“Well, as we have said, we are custom-building a FIFA version for the Nintendo Switch,” Moore said of the game. “It will be FIFA 18, and it will obviously be later this year when FIFA 18 comes out.”
Of course it was always going to be FIFA 18, but this is the first time that someone has confirmed as much, as well as suggesting a release window beyond simply “2017”.
“And I look forward to seeing the Nintendo Switch,” Moore went on, “we are not far away from its launch and in fact, here in Paris, I was very impressed to see FNAC stores with Nintendo Switch in the windows.”\
