Unreal Engine: 4.15 Update Release for Nintendo Switch Support

MotweraGamingLeave a Comment

Nintendo is releasing the Nintendo Switch soon and one of it’s more promising features is support for modern development engines. One such engine includes Unreal Engine 4, which is powering many titles coming to the system. To help further the support of the engine, a recent build of UE4 released specifying Switch support.

Epic Games has released a new update for its Unreal Engine, which adds official support for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch console. While the Japanese gamemaker has been working with the popular developmental engine for some time now, this patch makes things official, and means that we should see a number of UE4 games on the Switch in the future.
One of the biggest problems with Nintendo’s Wii U console was its lack of third-party support, so getting a popular engine like Unreal Engine working well on the next-gen system is a smart move. It also comes at a time when Japanese developers appear to be catching up with the West in learning how to best utilize the Unreal Engine, so it is expected to see much greater adoption among Eastern studios.

This is a big deal and the update being public versions of UE4 can ensure more support for Switch will be happening.

(No major plot spoilers in this video. Some substories are mentioned.)
Yakuza 0 is a wildly dissonant experience, swinging violently between super-serious gangster intrigue, slapstick violence and over-the-top melodrama. It’s the absolute best. In this episode of Writing on Games, I analyse why embracing this dissonance allows the game to tell more human stories.

Game Informer was able to spend some time with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild recently and shared gameplay with their time with the game. This includes extensive footage of Link exploring snow-covered landscapes; locations haven’t seen outside of small shots during trailers. Unlike past games, Link has a clothing mechanic, where specific outfits determine resistance to weather. So if you are wearing heavy metal armor you might attract lightning for example. When in cold locations, Link needs to be warm otherwise he loses health.
Seeing this mechanic in action via Game Informer gameplay clip is really cool and we will see more of this shown of when we get closer to the games March 3rd release on the Wii U & Nintendo Switch.

Remembering ‘Mr. Sprinkles’ – A Dark Comedy from the Minds Behind Rick & Morty

Animation is a powerful medium that can be used to tell all kinds of stories. You can make laugh through sharp comedy, tell powerful stories that can move someone, and just do something completely nuts that is unique. Rick & Morty creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon had a number of projects completed before that series was unleashed on Adult Swim.
One such series was called ‘Mr. Sprinkles’. Telling a story of a Cat in the Hat styled creature, we go on a moving story that in many cases feels like the preface too what we got in Rick & Morty. Mr. Sprinkles starts out as a darker parody of Dr. Seuss stories with it’s wacky characters but sets out to tell a profound narrative.
Growing over the course of this short series, Mr. Sprinkles adjusts to a changing world around him and realizes how vile it can be sometimes. Similar to Rick and Morty, it’s not afraid to go in bleak directions but the humor is on-point, making watching the series enjoyable. The ending is powerful, telling viewers a message that will stick with them long after the show is over. I highly recommend you watch the series as it does a number of things right. Specifically if you love Rick & Morty, this show is important to watch; many elements present here in terms of writing and tone mirror what we saw with later works from Justin and Dan.
