NieR Automata – PS4 Pro vs. PS4 Comparison & Frame Rate Test (Digital Foundry)
NieR Automata is coming out soon and many are wondering if the final game is not only a great playing experience but also a stable one. With Platinum Games developing this title, the expectation for a well-running games is present and based off Digital Foundry’s findings, it’s solid.
The game runs at 900p/60FPS on base PS4 with it largely staying around 40-50FPS most of the time while the PlayStation 4 Pro not only gets 1080p resolution but also a more stable frame rate. Both versions are playable, but one thing that DF points out is how well the game shifts different gameplay styles within it’s engine but never having problems.
You could be fighting robots on the ground one moment but the next you are flying fighter jets in a top-down shooter section. It mixes things up (like the original NieR) but with Platinum Game’s on board for development, the glue holding things together is quite strong.
Digital Foundry: Breath of the Wild – Switch Docked vs. Portable Mode Frame-Rate Test
Breath of the Wild released for the Switch launch and many are enjoying it. But how does the finished game run? Many cited frame rate issues in demo builds across Wii U and Nintendo Switch in past press events, so the final release has some hopeful for better frame rates.
Digital Foundry found the answer and the end result is a bit surprising. The portable mode runs at a stable 30FPS with few dips but when docked it mirrors performance seen in the Wii U build of the game. This means that when you dock the Switch, you get frame rate dips into the 20’s when out in the field or when in large bunches of foliage.
The reasoning for this makes some sense; when in portable mode the game runs at 720p but when you dock it, the resolution boosts to 900p. A higher resolution could be straining the hardware and the end result is a lower base frame rate.

Investigating Tiberium – GVMERS
During the PS3 and 360 generation, the Command & Conquer series was getting more popular. Getting releases on PC and consoles alike with quality releases, many wanted to see the series continue. Eletronic Arts saw the success of first person shooters and wanted see if you can blend strategy elements within FPS mechanics. So the project Tiberium was put into development for the PS3/360/PC and was set within the Command & Conquer world.
It was sadly scrapped however and today, YouTube content creator GVMERS explores the history and sad demise of a promising title.
The Command & Conquer series is one of the most successful real-time strategy franchises of all time. From the original “Tiberium” games to the Red Alert spin-offs, the Generals entries, and beyond, the series has consistently produced some of the most exciting RTS experiences available, with a focus on intense action sequences supported by light base-building and resource-gathering elements.
Community Q&A with Skylanders Academy Showrunner Eric Rogers – CrystalBlazier
Skylanders Academy was a recent show that came on to Netflix late last year (as of this writing) and many enjoyed the show. From seeing the Skylanders going on new adventures too seeing a special bandicoot get a crashing cameo, it was a show that was quite solid. Member of the Skylanders Forums CrystalBlazier was able to interview the show runner Eric Rogers.
You can read the full interview by clicking the following link but the interview answered some interesting questions. But below are key questions I wanted to highlight as I felt they were quite interesting to see answered.
Yooka-Laylee character round up! Week 2
With all the Yooka-Laylee news that has happened I almost forgot to report on this. Here are this weeks batch of interesting characters
The one that interest me the most is Corplet Security mainly because he looks like the Kinect. I can’t wait to see what else this game has to offer.
Super Eyepatch Wolf – Why You Should Watch ‘Samurai Jack’
Cartoon Network has produced amazing shows over the years. But one show that heavily sticks out from the rest of it’s line up is the series Samurai Jack. Focusing on offering a more serious tone and more somber atmosphere compared to other shows on the network, Jack cut his way into the hearts of many viewers. We wanted to see him return to the past and save the world, but the show didn’t get a proper ending.
This was finally rectified with the announcement that Adult Swim would commission one final season for the show to wrap up any lose ends. To celebrate it’s upcoming release, content creator Super Eyepatch Wolf released a lengthy video (which you can find above this text) that explains why the show is so strong.
I loved watching this show growing up and many of the points Super Eyepatch Wolf brings up in his video line up with my own thoughts; the art direction and great cast of characters helps the show become a one of a kind experience.
What You Missed From NieR (SPOILERS) – Super Bunny Hop
NieR is a very odd beast of a game. Blending various elements together that don’t normally mesh well (wacky story, gameplay that changes frequently and more) allowed the title to become a classic for many gamers during the PS3/360 generation. With the recent release of NieR Automata on the PlayStation 4 (and coming out on the PC in the future), YouTube content creator Super Bunnyhop put out a video explaining the game.
This includes backstory of the game’s world and setting among other elements (gameplay, lore from prior games in the series, etc). I really enjoyed watching this video, as I became more informed about this series and it got me excited for Automata.
