Final Fantasy XV released last holiday on the PS4 and Xbox One, with publisher Square Enix promising to continue supporting the game through free and paid updates. Promises include DLC chapters that let you play as Noctis’ party members in solo-adventures and free updates that add new content to the base game. It seems promising and encouraging that Square is going to support it’s single player mamoth with content all year long…..but how this new content look?
Well Square Enix has the answer to that question! Releasing a special trailer recently, it shows off content released in January 2017 alongside upcoming content from February all the way to Summer of this year. It looks great and we will cover this content when it releases. Very interested in the party member DLC personally, as one of the highlights of FFXV was Noctis interacting with his buddies. Learning more about them could be very promising and lead to powerful stories we can experience.

Fallout 4 is one of the biggest games publisher Bethesda released in 2015. It offered a lot of content, expanded the games world through DLC releases and recently is pushing for stronger visuals through supporting PS4 Pro hardware. The original released suffered from frame rate issues and some muddled texture work on consoles but the studio behind the project is set on improving the game visually.

We compare the graphics of Fallout 4 on PS4 and PS4 Pro in 4K mode. Fallout 4 got PS4 Pro support with patch 1.9 / 1.14. The PS4 Pro version now runs at 1440p with enhanced draw distance for trees, grass, objects and NPCs as well as enhanced godrays. We show each of the improvements in detail, especially the improved draw distance makes a huge difference.

Tested and captured by Candyland, we see the PS4 and PS4 Pro get compared after a big update released for both platforms. The end result? The PS4 Pro version runs at not only a higher resolution but supports lots of new visual features that enhanced the presentation across the entire game. It’s a great upgrade and hopefully even more publishers/developers revisit older titles and give them PS4 Pro support in the near future.

Resident Evil 7 is one of the biggest surprises of 2017 currently. Returning to the horrific roots of the original Resident Evil games on the PlayStation One, it blends iconic Resident Evil charm with modern elements scene in recent horror titles. The end result is a game many are greatly enjoying and sales indicate it was a powerful success for Capcom.

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that worldwide shipments of RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard (RESIDENT EVIL 7), the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise, for PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Windows PC have surpassed three million units.

It’s wonderful to see such a quality horror games sell and considering how RE7 is one of the few major releases to fully support PlayStation VR, the title is a benchmark game for not only horror but VR experiences on consoles. Resident Evil 7 is out now on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC with plans for free & paid DLC releasing in the near future.

Street Fighter V is a game that continues to get new content and Capcom is set on ensuring the game has plenty for it’s player base to do in 2017. A new character is releasing soon in the game and her name is Kolin. She has ice powers and looks to be a great character in the roster. Her ice powers can freeze people in place and her having an extra jump with her powers can make her useful for areal combat.
Like the rest of SFV’s content, you can either use paid money or Fight Money to unlock this character.

GTA IV released on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility program recently and VG Tech released the above video. Through watching the video, you can see that has a 10FPS boost on Xbox One and while never hitting 60FPS, it does run better then the 360 and PS3 original release.
This shows how the BC program can benefit games, as through using the stronger hardware of the Xbox One you can get a more playable experience.

Bombergirl: Arcade-Exclusive New Take on ‘Bomberman’ Series, Gameplay Released

Bomberman isn’t a stranger to being shifted and changed in adapting to new markets/platforms. It’s a series timeless and ever evolving, but one direction the series never went in was anime-looking girls blowing each other up. Well, despite not many asking for this take on Bomberman, Konami answered and gave us Bombergirls for Arcade release in Japan.
You can see gameplay of the title above this text but it’s odd to be honest. The game still appears to play like past Bomberman games but with EXP icons on the map and different weapons you can use outside of bombs, it seems to be a different take on the established formula in the series. We will continue reporting on this title as further information comes out.
If this game announcement upsets you, know that Konami has a traditional game in the series coming out at the Switch launch thanks to Nintendo-backed support, so the series isn’t going the Silent Hill/Castlevania route (where it got a new ‘game’ in Pachinko and not a original console release).

Fighting Over Control – Kotaku Article on Overwatch & Keyboard/Mouse vs. Controller

MotweraGamingLeave a Comment

The idea of playing shooters using mouse & keyboard vs. console controller is a battle that many have over the years. On PC you have the option to use one over the other but consoles normally only support controllers and NOT PC’s Keyboard & Mouse. That has changed a bit in recent years through unofficial means of using Mouse and Keyboard in console games, one being Overwatch. People have been coming out voicing anger over this, feeling keyboard & mouse users have the advantage.

Since last weekend, Overwatch console players have flooded forums with denunciations of so-called “cheaters” who play with a mouse and keyboard set-up. That way, they’ll nail the headshots and swift movements that console players must work hard to master. Players stuck with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 controllers call mouse and keyboard conversion devices an unfair advantage. But gamers with disabilities call it a crucial tool.
On Battle.net, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan posted an unusually terse message rejecting the use of mouse and keyboard on console. He called for a full stop on Xbox and PlayStation’s recognition of input conversion devices or, equivocating, open and easy support for all console players choosing mouse and keyboard. A vocal majority of Overwatch fans rallied behind him. But, for America’s several million gamers with disabilities, the input conversion technology that allows for mouse and keyboard console play is what makes their favorite games accessible. Steve Spohn, CEO of AbleGamers, told me that a block on these devices would prove “disastrous for gamers with disabilities.” He added that “Such a system-wide ban would not only eliminate mouse and keyboard, it would also block out almost all of the assistive technologies we give to people with disabilities to be able to play on consoles.”

Snake Pass News: David Wise Composing for the Game

MotweraGamingLeave a Comment

Sumo Digital is making a charming little game called Snake Pass for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in the near future but one thing you might have noticed in trailer for the game was the musical score. Being filled with upbeat tracks and iconic sounds, it felt similar to rare work from the past. That is the case because the composer for Snake Pass is none other then talented Donkey Kong Country composer David Wise!

Independent developer Sumo Digital, the studio behind AAA blockbusters Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed, LittleBigPlanet 3 and the in-development Crackdown 3, today announced that veteran audio legend David Wise is composing the soundtrack for its’ upcoming slithery physics platformer, Snake Pass. Scheduled to launch later this Spring on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, Snake Pass is a retro-inspired collectathon platformer, where players slither, curl and climb their way through increasingly challenging worlds filled with intricate obstacles and fiendishly mind-bending challenges.
“Snake Pass is inspired by the classic Rare collectathon platformers of the N64 era, so getting David on board for the soundtrack was imperative to complete our vision”, said Seb Liese, Creator of Snake Pass. “His sunny, tropical compositions blend perfectly with the slithery gameplay. He’s truly a composer of rare talent indeed…”
To whet your appetite, wrap your ears around some snippets of David’s tracks now:

“Once I played the game and saw the captivating world Sumo created, it set my mind on fire. I immediately began composing melodies, then worked with the team to develop these and nail down the feel of the soundtrack,” said David Wise. “We’ve ended up with something that not only pays tribute to the game’s classic inspirations, but also brings something new to the table, just as the game’s mechanics do!”
When a mysterious intruder threatens the tranquility of their home, it’s up to Noodle the Snake and Doodle the Hummingbird to embark on a daring journey to save the day. Controlling this dynamic duo, players must become one with the snake as they slither, curl and climb their way through 15 levels across 4 increasingly challenging themed worlds. Snake Pass is a unique take on the platforming genre that is intuitive and fun to learn, but will gradually test your snake charming skills to the limit!

The sample tracks sound wonderful and easily fit the exploration/platforming style the game is aiming for. We will be learning more about Snake Pass as we get closer to it’s release.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie – Official Trailer Releases & September Release Confirmed

While older audiences might scratch there heads when hearing the world ‘Ninjago’ but it’s a major IP for the LEGO brand. Having numerous TV show seasons on Cartoon Network, lots of LEGO sets, comic books and even portable games for the PS Vita & 3DS (including being a major franchise in the LEGO Dimensions series); this is a major franchise. The next major step is a feature film and with the success of LEGO in theaters, it makes a lot of sense to give Ninjago some further attention.

A new animated adventure in Warner Bros. Pictures’ LEGO® franchise, “The LEGO NINJAGO Movie” stars Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, Zach Woods, and the legendary Jackie Chan. In this big-screen NINJAGO adventure, the battle for NINJAGO City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon, The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power of Spinjitzu.
Jackie Chan (“Kung Fu Panda,” The Karate Kid”) stars as Master Wu; Justin Theroux (“Magamind 2,” “The Leftovers”) is Garmadon; Dave Franco (“Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”) plays Lloyd; and Olivia Munn (“X-Men: Apocalypse”) is Lloyd’s mom, Koko. Making up the secret ninja crew, Fred Armisen (“The Jim Gaffigan Show,” “SNL”) voices Cole; Abbi Jacobson (“Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising”) plays Nya; Kumail Nanjiani (“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”) is Jay; Michael Peña (“Ant-Man,” “The Martian”) is Kai; and Zach Woods (“Silicon Valley”) voices Zane.
“The LEGO NINJAGO Movie” marks the feature film directorial debut of Charlie Bean (“Tron: Uprising”). The screenplay is by Hilary Winston & Bob Logan & Paul Fisher, story by Kevin Hageman & Dan Hageman and Hilary Winston & Bob Logan & Paul Fisher, based on LEGO Construction Toys.  “The LEGO NINJAGO Movie” is produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Roy Lee, who previously collaborated on the worldwide box-office phenomenon “The LEGO Movie,” along with Maryann Garger (“Flushed Away”). Serving as executive producers are John Powers Middleton, Seth Graham

As someone who enjoyed the cartoon and The LEGO Movie, I feel this holds promise. While the overall story is similar to the series (stop Garmadon) from early seasons, the characters and personalities seem very different. But this is a good move; the movie might be many people’s first introduction to the brand and being set within the LEGO Movie universe will allow it to bounce off that movies successes. The animation looks great, writing is quite sharp and general story could be good; I really enjoyed the trailer.
