GameXplain: Super Mario Odyssey – Hour & A Half Analysis of Revival Trailer
If you can say one thing about GameXplain, they can take a little footage and tear it apart through heavily detailed analysis’. Remember the almost two hour Zelda video they released that covered all the footage from Breath of the Wild? Well, they did it again. Super Mario Odyssey got an hour and a half video detailing every little bit seen in the three minute trailer and I really enjoyed watching this.
By breaking down the location Mario explores, other little bits and more, we can get a clear insight on what Odyssey could offer gamers when it releases this Fall. I highly recommend you watch the video if you love the Mario series and want to learn more about the plumbers globe trotting adventure.
Dissida Final Fantasy – Console Port Getting Story Mode & Playable Villains; No Current Release Date
Hazama-san mentioned that the game did not appear at the Final Fantasy 30th anniversary opening ceremony event in Tokyo because the console version is not ready to be revealed yet in a form that would meet the expectations of the fans.
According to Hazama-san, many fans expect a story mode in the console version of the game, and it’s being worked on, even if the main part of the game will remain battle. In order to further enhance other factors, it will take some more time for the console version to come. He also apologized since a year from the release of the arcade version the home console version still isn’t ready, and we’re entering the second year without a reveal, but he’ll keep doing his best towards the goal. Interestingly, Kujiraoka-san also hinted to possible plans for the game to make a worldwide eSports debut, even if nothing can be announced for now.
So basically, a lot is planed like a story mode and new characters but they aren’t ready yet, so the console version will be fully shown off when enough is ready to be presented. It is a shame to hear this but at least when it does release on consoles, it will be packed with content and match up with releases like Mortal Kombat X or Injustice Gods Among Us in regards to single player & multiplayer content.

Five Nights at Freedy’s: The Twisted Ones – New Book (‘Silver Eyes’ Sequel) Announced
Five Nights at Freedy’s is one of gaming’s most surprising new IP’s. Originating as a simple horror game being inspired by harsh criticism from prior work, game developer Scott turned the series into a juggernaut through over six game releases, a movie deal, tons of merchandise and a enjoyable book called ‘The Silver Eyes’. This was accomplished through skillful storytelling, care being put into every release and building up fascinating lore that people still try to piece together.
Now that the original ‘Silver Eyes’ was a critical and commercial success, it’s getting a sequel called ‘The Twisted Ones’ taking place after the events of the original book. You can order the book on Amazon but here is a story summery listed on the site’s page.
Persona Survey from Atlus JP Releases – Cites Possible Remakes and Spin-Offs
Persona is a huge franchise for Atlus and SEGA, with it being very successful as noted by Persona 5’s resounding success in Japan across PS3 & PS4. But with the games inbound western release, many are wondering the future of the series. It’s not stranger to remakes like Persona 4 Golden or spin-offs like Persona 4 Arena, so seeing Persona 5 get that treatment would be very interesting.
Atlus knows people love the series spin-offs so they asked the JP players what future Persona games they would want. The full list of questions can be found on Persona Central but they include suggestions for possible titles like a Persona 3 Remake and Persona 5 Spin-Offs. This is quite interesting, as they could be entering development right now or started early stages of development last Fall due to Persona 5 finishing development (with localization work wrapping up hopefully soon).
I would love a fighting game using Persona 5 characters and a full remake of Persona 3 would be amazing personally. What would you like to happen in the future for the Persona series? Let us know in the comments below!
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review (Nintendo DS)
Sonic is a series that speeds through the platforming genre at record pace, creating experiences people never forget. But the Blue Blur never really ventured into the realm of role playing games unlike his friendly plumber rival. While Mario hopped through the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond in many RPG titles developed by Square Enix, AlphaDream and Intelligent Systems, Sonic never touched the genre.
That was until 2007, with SEGA announcing that famous studio Bioware was working on a Sonic the Hedgehog role playing game for the Nintendo DS. This was a huge deal at the time, as Bioware never made a Sonic game nor a portable title before. With SEGA publishing the title and EA letting the studio work on the project after purchasing them, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood released in Fall 2008.
Does this RPG title live up to past Bioware titles and honor the Sonic series in a positive way?

Dustforce Review – PC, PS Vita, Xbox 360, PS3
2D action platformers are a genre of games many enjoyed over the years. But to stay fresh and creative in the ever expanding genre, many games tend to go in odd directions and explore unique concepts. Playing as a sack of meat to save his bandage girlfriend, jumping in/out of the screen to kill mud-themed monsters, and running around as a dragon with speed rivaling a blue hedgehog across colorful landscapes; the genre isn’t afraid to explore interesting concepts.
So how about dusting? You know, that chore that we do in ensuring our homes are nice and clean. Indie studio called Hit-Box said lets turn that into a 2D platformer. The end result is a really creative adventure being formed. Through cleaning the world of leaves and dust, four heroes set out to save the world from dust monsters. Does this interesting adventure create one of the genre’s best? Pick up your broom and get dusting to find out!

Square Enix Updating FFXV in March – Chapter 13 Getting Fixes & More
FFXV had a major issue with a portion of the game called ‘Chapter 13’ where many stated was flawed and frustrating. Square Enix is fixing this through a special update releasing in March that not only fixes issues present during that portion of the game but also adding other features as well.
It’s great to see Square Enix support FFXV in 2017 and this is just the start of many free and paid updates releasing throughout the year for the title.
PlayStation 4 Pro – Boost Mode: Just Cause 3
Just Cause 3 is infamous for running quite badly on both PS4 and Xbox One, but with the PS4 Pro, many could see the game running far better on consoles. I say this due to the fact that the PS4 Pro Boost Mode literary transforms the game into being a far more stable experience.
Having a more stable frame rate above 30FPS, you can explore the vast open world and preform tons of explosions without the game chugging now. While this shouldn’t be major news, as games should run well on consoles to be playable experiences, PS4 Pro users can actively play Just Cause 3 the way it was meant to be played on consoles finally.
Hopefully Square Enix will release a proper patch that irons out the frame issues for all PS4 users at a later point in the future.
GameXplain: Hands-On With Nintendo Switch Dev Kit Discussion
GameXplain was able to get hands-on time with Yacht Club Games development kit that they used to get Shovel Knight running within two weeks for the platform. The video details impressions on how the system feels, commentary about how the Joy-Cons might not be the best for 2D platformers and other useful information.
I enjoyed watching this and while it’s disappointing to hear that the Switch isn’t the best for 2D platformers, hearing that Shovel Knight took less then 2 weeks to get up & running on Switch shows how easy it is for studios to port games to the console. Granted, Shovel Knight is a simple game in comparison to most AAA titles graphically but the ease of development is important in getting plenty of indie studios and third party developers on board for the Switch.
PlayStation 4 Pro – Boost Mode Results For ‘Evil Within’
Sony is releasing a new update for the PS4 Pro that enables something called ‘Boost Mode’. This will enable the PS4 Pro to use it’s higher power-levels to overclock games that aren’t Pro supported. What does this mean? Well, it more or less forces the Non-Native Pro game to use the stronger hardware resulting in higher frame rates and other such features.
While many examples are springing up, I will be posting articles about specific games based on footage released as there are going to be a lot of games being tested to support the new features. The first game we will be talking about in relation to this ‘Boost Mode’ is Evil Within.
There was a little difference of loading time. I exchanged PS4’s storage(SSHD). The loading time obviously shortened in boost mode.
Basically, the main difference is that loading times are lower compared to standard PS4’s and I could likely see the frame rate getting improved as well. One of the few examples of Boost Mode not adding much but still nice seeing the game using the feature somehow. I will be posting articles about the Boost Mode as more video footage comes out. The video footage for ‘Evil Within’ comes from YouTube user Noel Underson.
