Freedom Planet 2 Preview – ‘Sample Version’ Impressions
When you talk about Freedom Planet, it’s hard to not mention the Sonic series. I say that due to how clear the similarities are with how speed is a focus in level design, core gameplay having Sonic elements and the original Freedom Planet originating as a Sonic fan production before morphing into it’s own original franchise. But with Sonic scrapping his feet to go on two adventures in 2017 through Sonic Mania and Project 2017, the place for Freedom Planet as a series is quite interesting.
The original did it’s own thing to great effect but with the sequel, it feels even further from Sonic then before. I say this as a good thing however, as my time with Freedom Planet 2 has me very excited for the full release in the future. Today I was able to spend over two hours with the Sample Version the developers released online for all to play and I wanted to share my thoughts on it.
So lets explore Dragon Valley and see what new tricks Lilac & friends picked up since the original release of Freedom Planet!

Poi Review – The PC’s 3D Platformer Adventure
3D platformers come in all shapes and sizes, with many of them offering unique takes on time honored mechanics. Through tight level design and creative elements, the 3D platformer has strikingly evolved over the many years since it’s introduction in the late 90’s. Today the genre is slowly coming back with games like Yooka-Laylee and Super Mario Odyssey releasing in 2017, making many hopeful for the genre’s future.
Poi is a unique beast compared to those other games though. The game originated as a Kickstarter project that slowly grew as an early access game on Steam since 2015; Febuary 1st marks the game leaving early access and now it’s in a complete finished state.
Does the game stand up next to the 3D platformer genre’s best adventures? Lets go on a 3D platforming adventure invoking memories of past and present to find out!

Playtonic Artist Makes Yooka & Laylee Figure – Possible Amiibo? (Speculation)
Indie games getting amiibos aren’t shocking, considering Yacht Club Games partnered with Nintendo in getting a Shovel Knight Amiibo created. But what about other ones? Well maybe Yooka & Laylee are getting amiibos in the future. Playtonic released the above tweet stating ‘Our artist Damien Sparkes is a model employee….’ Outside of the charming pun and wording, make note of the figure he crated.
With the small circle-like base, it heavily invokes what most amiibo bases look like in size & shape. This could mean that Yooka-Laylee might be getting amiibo support in the future.
This is not an official announcement, but rather a speculation post based on images/content/etc released from official Playtonic Games social media accounts.
Why Super Mario Odyssey Looks Good – Arlo Video
Super Mario Odyssey is one of the most promising of the upcoming line-up of games releasing on the Switch in 2017. Returning to open-ended 3D platforming pioneered in Mario 64 and Sunshine, many are happy to see the iconic Plumber return to his roots. Youtube content creator Arlo is known for making quality videos that offer deep insight on games and just overall have a really positive attitude to the industry.
In the sea of angry gamers you can see online from time to time, Arlo‘s videos are refreshing as he always has an open mind toward most games. I greatly enjoy his content, so if you enjoy the above video, consider visiting his YouTube Channel!
LEGO Dimensions – Meet the Heroes: Knight Rider Fun Pack (Hosted by LEGO Sonic)
The Blue Blur introduces the latest addition to the expansive library of iconic characters joining LEGO Dimensions this year. Knight Rider and his super car ‘KIT’ will be playable in a fun pack releasing in the future. Fun packs come with two vehicles and a Mini-Figure (character) that can be used within the game.

GameXplain captured this from their copy of the game and it looks quite nice, matching the art style found in the series 3DS installments. KonoSuba Season 2 Blu-Ray Disk Contains Mega Man-like Game
Remember the days of little mini games being contained with DVD’s you owned as a child? I remember those quite fondly, even if the mini-games that were on them weren’t very good. But to think full indie-quality games can be found within Blu-Ray Disks! That’s right; KonoSuba Season 2 isn’t just releasing on Blu-Ray in the future but it will contain a special game that is remarkably similar to old-school Mega Man.
It looks quite fun and you can see the trailer for the title above this text. No word on whenever it’s exclusive to the Blu-Ray or if you can purchase it on Steam in the future but we will cover more on this as the story develops. I loved what I saw; it really looks like a quality Mega Man-like game.
